To what extent do you own your song?
Music composers share their creativity from only twelve notes in music. Of course there are several musical scales which give all sorts of melodies and chords. All music is derived from this pool and therefore, similarities occur in songs as musicians express their creativity. This brings the issues of ownership in to play, thus copyright emerging to protect eveyone.
Copyright protects the original expression of an idea that has been reduced to a tangible form from being copied without authority.  It does not protect the concept or the idea. This is because one cannot have a monopoly over an idea. Copyright protection is automatic once an idea has been reduced to any tangible format. The Kenya Copyright Board offers notifications where although not a legal requirement allows rights holders to register their works. This helps in the creation of a database as well as assists in the enforcement of copyright.
It also does not protect symbols, titles, short phrases or factual information that may be contained in a copyright work.
Copyright applies to any medium.  This means that you must not reproduce copyright protected work in another medium without permission.  This includes, publishing photographs on the internet, making a sound recording of a book, a painting of a photograph and so on.
Examples of works protected by copyright
v  Dramatic works, including dance or mime
v  Musical works
v  Artistic works, including paintings, engravings, photographs, sculptures, collages, architecture, technical drawings, diagrams, maps and logos
v  Layouts or typographical arrangements used to publish a work, for a book for instance
v  Recordings of a work, including sound and film
v  Broadcasts of a work
v  Ownership of copyright

Upcoming musicians need to know how to protect their music through copyright. In Kenya the copyright board (KECOBO) is a state corporation under the office of the Attorney General and Department of justice and mandated with the administration and enforcement of copyright and related rights. The Board is responsible for organizing legislation on copyright and related rights; conducting training programmes on copyright and related rights; enlightening and informing the public on matters related to copyright; licensing and supervising the activities of collective management societies; and maintaining an effective databank on authors and their works.
The Kenya Copyright Board is comprised of members drawn from both the public and private sectors.  The members from the private sector are nominated by associations representing software, producers of sound recordings, publishers, film distributors, performers, broadcasting stations, musicians and the audio-visual industry. There are four experts on copyright and related rights and five members who are alternates to the Attorney General, Police Inspector General, Permanent Secretary - Ministry of Information, Permanent Secretary - Ministry of Sports, Culture and Arts, and the Permanent Secretary - Ministry of Finance.

While composing and singing is a gift, many musicians have found themselves being tempted to copy ideas which eventually kill their creativity.
With the above information, one is now informed that copyright issue is not something to ignore in the music industry.

               THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GUITARS.

Just like there are different kinds of music guitars also are different depending with their functions and how they are made. For instance the number of strings, location of the sound hole etc. There are about 12 different kinds of guitars which are:

       1.Acoustic guitars.
STEEL-STRING ACOUSTIC GUITAR

CLASSICAL ACOUSTIC GUITAR

There are two kinds of acoustic guitars the: Steel-string/flat top acoustic guitars and the classical acoustic guitars. These kinds of guitars have a wide neck and they utilize nylon strings. They are also similar in that one can use a plectrum or finger style to play them.
They have hallow body and produce a deep tone and they are prefered for chordal rhythmatic strumming.
Most of us know this kind of guitar mostly because it is used to play rock songs, blues, jazz and pop music. It is plugged into an amplifier so as to produce a loud voice. When it is amplified it produces a metallic sound with a long delay. They have thinner strings compaired to acoustic guitars.
         3.Twelve-strings guitars.

Just like the name these kinds of guitars have 12 strings. They have the usual six and another set of six thinner ones.Every string of the second set matches the note of its standard string counter Part. They create pairs and are played in a simillar way as the usual six-string.It is essential for chord progressions that need thickening.
        4.Archtop guitars.

They are semi-hollow steel acoustic/electric guitars.Acoustic and electric archtops have a similar design but differ due to addition of electro-magnetic hpickups and pots. They are available in full bodied and thinline. The archtop guitars mostly used to play jazz music.
        5.Steel guitars.
PEDAL STEEL GUITAR

LAP STEEL GUITAR

They originated from Hawii. It's placed horizontally crossways on the players knees hence very different from other guitars. There are two kinds: Pedals and lap steel guitar. The pedals steel has a similar mechanical tactic with the harp. One uses pedals and knees levers to change the pitch of each string while playing hence providing the player with the entired chromatic scale. The  lap-steel is playrd using a solid bar  of steel and lay the neck horizontally.

Those are just afew of the types of guitars that are found .

It all begun at 1.pm as the crowds started streaming in one by one. The love bug had struck, and the couples kept on tacking themselves next to the fence. Elani muzik is known for ballads and some nice love songs that rocked our air waves earlier this year. The famous Kookoo, Milele and Barua ya Dunia singers have flawless voices. One can seat a whole day listening to Elani music.

This must have been a perfect dating ground. The flow was too slow, that the event organizers were filled with apprehension. Anxiety kept on rising.  It was not until 6.pm that the real Kenyans started flowing in to the event. #SharetheLove Concert

Small Compact Cameras for HD Videos

The Canon Gear for Photographers and Videographers

When I was growing up and kept on admiring what the videographers and photographers gears were, I thought that the bigger the machine the better. Experience had taught me otherwise.  The situation and perception our people however have not changed much. To any lay person who has no clue on videos and photography, they will be forgiven to think like I used to.

The reason why I have felt compelled to do this article is to polish the skills and knowledge of our local wananchi. A few weekends back I attended a function in Karen. This is one of the up-market suburbs of Nairobi.  The owner of the function together with the organizers almost sent away this guys who showed up with a Canon EOS 60D camera. They called him a joker with a village machine. When I looked at the guy who was at pains trying to explain the specs, the quality of his camera, it just dawned on me, the who I was, before my interest grew on media and photography.  It took our effort to show the folks that this is a powerful machine and best for shooting even movies.

How can you know the Cameras?

With the changing technology, no need to carry the jaw breaking, shoulder burdening video cameras. Some with the aerials and receivers!  A simple small, portable camera can nowadays, shoot high definition videos.
Some of the photos in this article will give you an idea of some of the best HD cameras that can be used both for video and photography! It’s all depends with the hands behind it.
